Where the whole town shows up
Hockey nights at the Southland, four sheets of curling, a splash park, movies at the Olympia and nine holes in the Regional Park — this town of 2,333 plays far bigger than its census.
The flagship
The Southland Co-op Centre
Substantially complete in September 2022, the $18-million Southland replaced the arena Assiniboia had skated in since 1956 — and it's a lot more than a sheet of ice.
Two storeys and more than 3,900 square metres, the Southland put the rink, the walking track and the teen hangout under one roof — with the Lakota First Nation Education and Interpretive Centre at its heart. Ottawa and Regina put up the biggest shares; the rest was raised the Assiniboia way, by the Town and Assiniboia Civic Improvement Association fundraising.

The cultural hub
The house that fundraising built
Sixty-two thousand square feet under one 2001 roof — auditorium, theatre, library, college campus and curling rink, on the same street as the Town Office.
Prince of Wales Cultural & Recreation Centre
Built in 2001 — again through Assiniboia Civic Improvement Association fundraising — the Prince of Wales Centre holds the Conexus Community Auditorium, a commercial kitchen and a bar.
It's also a landlord: the Olympia Movie Theatre, the Assiniboia & District Public Library, Southeast Regional College's Assiniboia campus, the Assiniboia Curling Club, Hit Radio 98 CKHD and a handful of offices all call it home.

Aquatic Centre & Splash Park

Diamonds, greens and dog runs
Playgrounds across town, shale diamonds at the Fairgrounds, tennis in the Regional Park, a free outdoor rink — and nine holes that have been playing since 1986.

The Assiniboia Regional Park Golf Course has been playing since 1986 — nine holes, par 36, with large bent-grass greens, water in play on five holes and a licensed clubhouse.
